What is Neurofeedback:
The brain is an intricate system of both chemicals and electrical activity. Neurofeedback is a ground-breaking technique that enhances the brain’s function and performance. Neurofeedback allows the clinician and the client to observe the brain in action from moment to moment. By using brainwave measurements, the individual is able to train the brain to function at its maximum potential by slowly changing their own brain activity to desired patterns.
What conditions can it help with:
What conditions can it help with
- Learning/Behavior Challenges
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- Sleep Problems
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Addiction
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Aggression
- Memory Difficulties
- Attachment Difficulties
- Depression
- Eating Disorders
- Relaxation
- Learning Disabilities
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
- Traumatic Brain Injury
How does it work:
Electrodes are applied to the scalp of the individual to listen in on the brainwave activity. The information is shown back to the individual who then works on changing the activity level of the desired brainwave frequencies. The information is presented in various forms to include video games in which the person effectively plays the video game with his or her brain. Eventually, with practice, the brainwave activity is “shaped” to the more desirable and regulated performance.
Neurofeedback has various benefits:
- Increase cognitive ability, attention span, and motor skills
- Enhance performance
- Diminish hyperactivity
- Normalizes sleep
- Decreases anxiety and depression
- Reduce irritability and mood swings
- Enhance mental clarity
- Regulate emotion, thinking, and behavior for increased balance daily function
- Alternative treatments to medication
